Bob Dalsemer has been calling dances and playing fiddle, guitar and accordion for more than 35 years. He has called throughout the U.S. and in Canada, England, Denmark, Belgium, Russia, and the Czech Republic. Bob's original dance compositions are danced at contra dances throughout the country. He is the author of West Virginia Square Dances and has collected other traditional square dances in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. He is a past President of the Country Dance and Song Society and is currently the Music and Dance Coordinator of the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC.
Steve Hickman is one of the truly great performers of fiddle music, electrifying audiences for close to thirty years. In addition to his fine fiddling and stage presence with D.C. area bands such as Evening Star, Fiddlestyx, and the Capitol Quicksteps, Steve is renowned for the arcane art of hambone, not to mention his handlebar mustache.
Claudio Buchwald, born into a musical family and raised in Peru until aged ten, delighted in and adopted some of the new music forms he met here in the U.S. While living in New England he became involved with square and contra dancing, and playing for dances has been the mainstay of his musical life. He’s been a member of The Backwoods Band, Evening Star, The Capital Quicksteps Orchestra, and The Monks. He plays fiddle, banjo, guitar, and piano, and is a big fan of the double fiddle sound.
John Devine is a solid mountain of rhythm guitar for all styles of country dancing from English to New England to Southern, with a not-so-secret leaning toward swing songs and joy. He has one of the most beautiful voices you'll ever hear.
David Crandall grew up in the thriving dance and music community of Berea, KY. He plays many instruments, including flute, saxophone and bass. As a member of the band Evening Star he has played at dance weeks and weekends across the country.
