This ALL-VOLUNTEER event is a 3-day/3-night weekend for callers, dancers,
and traditional musicians to enjoy one another's talents and company in a camp setting.
The focus is contra dance and related music. Everyone has the opportunity to help
provide the entertainment for this event, which begins FRIDAY evening
and ends MONDAY around noon (after brunch and dancing).
NOTE: Instead of a sit down meal the first night (Friday),
we will offer a sandwich bar, with chips & dips, etc., for
all campers.
Please consider bringing a side dish for this light meal.
Musicians can jam, play for dancing, and lead workshops in tunes or techniques. You are encouraged to download and learn a few common tunes for the weekend.
Callers and others can lead a dance session (contra, square, English Country, folk, couples dance, etc.) a song session, other activities, or just dance.
Not a musician or caller, but have another talent you just want to share? You can suggest it on your registration form (preferred) or sign up for it when you get to camp. Such workshop examples from the past include singing, juggling, body percussion and water color, to name a few.
The content of the schedule is largely dependent upon the skills of and suggestions made by those attending, via the registration form. YOU help fill in the schedule with dance, music, or other workshops.
All Camp Band: All players are welcome. The All Camp Band practices and performance will be led this year by Susan Relland, member of the OK City area band Blue Moon. The All Camp Band will play 1 two-hour dance segment. Here is a list of tunes chosen for that dance session. You are encouraged to become familiar with them in advance. The tunes are available online at www.thesession.org, or in Vol 1 or 2 of the Portland Collection tune books. Contact the registrar, Mimi Rogers, if you need help finding any of them.
The Camp: Cross Point Methodist Camp lies on the North Shore of Lake Texoma, about two hours from Dallas or Oklahoma City. It features a lovely dance hall that doubles as dining hall, with a beautiful (and soft) wood floor, lots of large windows, and great atmosphere. More info is on their Website.
LODGING is in 2-sided heated bunkhouse cabins, with bathroom in the middle,
separating both sides. An attempt will be made to limit each side of the cabin to
6 persons, or a maximum of 12 persons per cabin. There are two NEW cabins which hold more people,
with nicer bathrooms, large meeting rooms, refrigerator, sink, and microwave. Pictures and descriptions
of the cabins are on their Website.
Tent and limited RV space is also available. There are also several
motels near by if you'd prefer them. See the list below.
MEALS: All meals are prepared by the camp staff and are included in the 'with meals' registration. If you think that the food provided by the camp will not work for you, then you can choose the 'no meals' registration option. Your name badge will reflect that choice. You are welcome to make use of the kitchen located in Madill cabin on site, which contains a stove, microwave, full size and mini refrigerators, and a sink. BEYOND THIS, WE CAN MAKE NO OTHER ACCOMMODATIONS FOR SPECIAL DIETS. PLEASE DO NOT ASK THE KITCHEN STAFF FOR OPTIONS NOT LISTED ON THE MENU.
SNACK TABLE: This year the snacks table will not be as lavish as in some past years. We ask that some of you bring your favorite snacks to share.
CANCELLATIONS: You will receive a full refund only if you notify the registrar, Mimi Rogers, by midnight of Dec 21st. After that date, we can refund only 50% of your fee.
COST: The cost with all options is only $188. Several
options are available, but ALL are for the full weekend. There are NO options
for partial attendance. Children ages 1-7 are half price. Infants less than one
year of age are free. There is a late registration fee of $10 per person starting on Dec 2.
A limited number of stipends (scholarships) are available to anyone who has not received one in the past 3 years.
See this document
and contact the Registrar.
Registrants will receive an email with a few more details a couple of weeks prior to the event, containing map with directions to the camp, possible schedule draft, and suggestions of what to bring.
