Cross Point Methodist Camp
Kingston, OK (North shore of Lake Texoma)
Thu Dec 31, 2009 - Sun Jan 3, 2010

This ALL-VOLUNTEER event is a 3-day/3-night weekend for callers, dancers, and traditional musicians to enjoy one another's talents and company in a camp setting. The focus is contra dance and related music. Everyone has the opportunity to help provide the entertainment for this event, which begins THURSDAY with the evening meal and ends SUNDAY with lunch.

Musicians can jam, play for dancing, and lead workshops in tunes or techniques. Callers and others can lead a dance session (contra, square, English Country, couples dance, etc.) a song session, other activities, or just dance.

The content of the schedule is largely dependent upon the skills of and suggestions made by those attending, via the registration form and a new FACEBOOK discussion.

MUSICIANS: You are encouraged to download and learn a few common tunes for the weekend.

The Camp, Cross Point Methodist, lies on the North Shore of Lake Texoma, about two hours from Dallas or Oklahoma City. It features a lovely dance hall that doubles as dining hall, with a beautiful (and soft) wood floor, lots of large windows, and great atmosphere.

LODGING is in 2-sided heated bunkhouse cabins, with bathroom in the middle, separating both sides. An attempt will be made to limit each side of the cabin to 6 persons, or a Maximum of 12 persons per cabin or 6 persons per side.
Tent and limited RV space is also available. There are also several motels near by if you'd prefer them. See the list below.

MEALS: All meals are prepared by the camp staff and are included in the 'with meals' registration. If you see that the food provided by the camp will not work for you, then you can choose the 'NO MEALS' registration option. Your name badge will reflect that choice. You are welcome to make use of the kitchen located in Madill cabin on site, which contains a microwave, full size and mini refrigerators, and a sink. You may want to bring an electric skillet or grill.

  1. The event is 3 nights long and this is the ONLY registration option.
  2. A degree of GENDER BALANCE will be sought, applying to dancers only. The limit will be a maximum of 10 more women dancers than men dancers.
  3. NTTDS membership hath its privileges. This is a way for the sponsoring organization to reward its members. Until Oct 24, 2009 only NTTDS members will be counted toward the maximum attendance and the gender balance. After Oct 24, it is open to all others.
  4. YOU help fill in the schedule with dance, music, or other workshops by having discussions with one another on FACEBOOK! Otherwise, the schedule will consist ONLY of contra dance segments assigned to callers and bands in the mornings and evenings.
At a time closer to the event, all registrants will be invited via email to join a Facebook page created just for Fiddler's Dream scheduling. You will also receive a list of attendees, their email addresses, and perhaps a suggestion of what other campers may be able to offer in terms of workshops. It will be UP TO YOU to help fill in the blanks on the schedule. You will also be advised as to time segments and number and size of available meeting spaces.

COST: The cost for all 3 days with all options is $140. See the registration web page or the full flier for the various options. Children ages 1-7 are half price. Infants less than one year of age are free. Add $10 after Dec 1.
REGISTER EARLY. The deadline for registration is Dec 20, but it is expected to fill up well before then. A waiting list will be maintained.

Registrants will receive a confirmation letter a couple of weeks prior to the event, containing map and directions to the camp, suggestions of what to bring, and perhaps schedule information.

Cancellations/Refunds: You will receive a full refund if you notify the registrar, Mimi Rogers, by midnight December 20; 50% after that date - OR - IN FULL after Dec 20, ONLY IF there is an equal replacement from the waiting list.
