Cross Point Methodist Camp
Kingston, OK (North shore of Lake Texoma)
Fri-Mon, Dec. 28 - 31, 2001
This is a 3-day/3-night weekend for all regional callers, dancers and traditional musicians to enjoy each others' talents and company and get away from it all. The focus is contra dance & related music. This is an all-volunteer event. All of you will have the opportunity to help provide the entertainment for this 3 day party which begins Friday at 8pm and ends Monday with lunch. I encourage you to attend the full three days. The bigger the crowd, the bigger the fun and the extra day allows for more variety of activities or more free time for naps, walks, socializing or just that much more dancing and jamming.
The Camp lies on the North Shore of Lake Texoma, just two hours from Dallas or Oklahoma City. It features a lovely dance hall that doubles as dining hall, with a beautiful wood floor, lots of large windows and great atmosphere. All meals are provided by the camp staff and are included in the registration cost. We will have use of 10 bunkhouse cabins, with four bunk beds and one single bed in each of the two rooms flanking the bath. Each cabin can sleep 18 but we will have a maximum of 10, 5 per side. There are also several motels near by if you'd prefer them. See the list below.
There will be opportunities for musicians to jam and/or lead workshops in tunes or techniques. All workshops will be coordinated through your registration. All musicians are encouraged to attend and help play for the dancing. Full bands or band fragments are welcome that can either play as a band for the dancing or join in one of the "all camp" band slots playing each evening.
Can't play music? No problem! You can lead a dance session (contras, squares, English Country, couple dances, etc) a song session, a kids activity (depending on number of kids present), sign up for the talent show held one of the evenings, or just dance.
The schedule will be based on the response to questions on the registration form; what registrants volunteer to lead or play and what sessions are requested. If you appear on the final schedule, you'll be notified beforehand and we'll discuss, if necessary.
Upon registration, a confirmation letter will confirm your cabin request, provide detailed maps and directions, more schedule information and recommendations of what to bring. If many small children are coming, I'll try to let all the parents know the total numbers and ages.
COST: (MUST REGISTER BY DEC 16, ADD $10 TO
THE FEE AFTER DEC 1)
The options are $70 for 2 nights or $95 for 3 nights,
which includes bunk house accomodations and all meals starting with the
evening meal of your first night, ending with lunch on your final day.
Or the meals-only price of $48/$65 respectively for those
who prefer to sleep off site. Children ages 1-7 are half price.
Infants less than one year of age get in free. The age/price policy is set
by Cross Point camp. Because it's difficult to keep track of who eats which
meals, or sleeps where when, these are the only prices available.
